The TDC sensor (TDC = True Disc Clearance) has been designed to measure the gap between the grinding plates in high yield pulp refiners. Dametric is both the leading innovator and market leader in developing, improving and manufacturing the TDC sensor. Indeed, since 1978, the TDC sensor has been used on refiners from Metso Paper and we have further enhanced the product over the subsequent years. In 2002 we implemented the latest improvement when we started welding the tip of the sensor. Consequently, the sensor is now sealed from process fluids to last even longer as well as provide improved fail safety. In 2000 we increased the temperature limit from 200 to 220 °C (437 °F) which was necessary for some high pressure processes. Furthermore, in 1982 a temperature element was added to protect the gap measurement at high temperatures, as well as present the process temperature inside the refiner to the operators. The TDC sensors are available in several models for different refiner types used by end users all over the world. You can purchase the TDC sensors either from your local Metso Paper sales agent or directly from Dametric.
